Mike has taught numerous seminars on Writing and Publishing Children's Books at colleges, universities and professional conferences. Seminars run a variety of lengths from one day to two weeks. In these hands-on workshops, students learn the form and mechanics of writing by creating a children's book as a group. Picture books are often the focus of the class but students may also work on chapter books. During longer seminars, students write their own book which is read and analyzed by the class. Students also bring in previously written work for analysis by the class. Methods of publishing children's books are discussed. This class is highly applicable to students and graduate students of writing, teachers, librarians, and anyone with a desire to write and publish children's books. Several of Mike's students have gone on to be published. Workshop syllabus can be forwarded upon request.
